The Axelrodi Rainbow, or Yellow Rainbow, is a peaceful, schooling fish that shows its best colors in sunlight. Rainbowfish are known for their characteristic large eyes. Males are yellow with a black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouth, and two dorsal fins. Females, although are not as brightly colored as their male counterparts, will add beauty and diversity to your aquarium.
The aquarium for a Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi should have plants in bunches with open water in the middle of the aquarium. A dark-colored gravel substrate may intensify the Axlerodi Rainbow’s colors.
An egg layer, the Axelrodi Rainbow spawns over moss with the fry hatching after about seven days. The fry should be fed small live foods such as brine shrimp. Morning sunlight may trigger spawning.
Although Axelrodi Rainbow have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. Small pieces of foods such as prepared flake, frozen, and live foods should be fed.
