Sunset Highfin Variatus Live-bearer Aquarium Fish
Xiphophorus variatus
The Sunset Variatus are one of the farm-raised color morphs of the wild type originally found in southern Mexico. The Sunset Variatus has a yellow and red body color. The Variatus is generally more elongated than its close cousin the Platy. The Variatus will prefer a densely planted tank and can be kept in pairs or groups. As an herbivore, plant-based foods should be part of their diet, though they will eat most all prepared foods for the aquarium.
Remarks: A perfect starter fish! Variatus (Xiphophorus variatus) are peaceful community fish that reproduce with ease. They are livebearers, meaning the females release live fry rather than laying eggs. It is recommended to keep more females than males, as males can easily harass females with relentless attempts to reproduce, leading to stress in the females.
