The lovely Marigold Variatus is one of the farm-raised color morphs of the wild type originally found in southern Mexico. The Marigold Variatus has a bright yellow to a dark golden body that fades on the belly and tail to a dark deep orange-red or maroon tailed body. Colors can be very different from this hybrid but always sure to please like all other livebearing fish. The Variatus is generally more elongated than its close cousin the Platy. The Variatus will prefer a densely planted tank and can be kept in pairs or groups. As an herbivore, plant-based foods should be part of their diet, though they will eat almost all prepared foods for the aquarium.
