The Black Swordtail is an exquisite color morph of the popular Swordtails species. This is another highly sought-after variation of the Xiphophorus helleri that boasts a breathtaking black/blue coloration with flair! The male has short, sleek fins with a distinct extension on the lower part of the tail, resembling a sword. Even though the female does not have the distinguishing sword-like tail (see 2nd pic), her vibrant coloration makes her breathtaking as well. The Black Swordtail is an omnivore that will eat commercially prepared flaked foods, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, brine shrimp as well as algae. They will grow to be a maximum of 3 or 4”, require a temperature of 64-82 F, a KH of 12-30, and a pH of 7-8.3.
